Education Works completes another successful Back to School season!

From October to February the Education Works group stores were a buzz of activity as we supplied hundreds of thousands of people with their educational resource needs for the new school year in stores across Australia, with many customers also choosing to shop via our School bagging programme, and online ordering was a huge success. Our staff numbers swelled to meet the demands of students, parents and teachers to make every Education Works experience a good one. Remember don’t wait in line in 2010/11 go online!

It is now back to business as usual, and every Education Works group store is open all year round for parents, students and teachers to visit and browse the huge range of home and school educational resources.

Inaugural Wooldridges Store Opens in Victoria

Education Works has great pleasure in announcing the launch of the Wooldridges Victoria educational superstore. The store was officially opened by Leonie Trimper, President of the Australian Primary Principal’s Association on the 8th June to a captive audience.

The local Wooldridges Victoria educational superstore will give both the educational community and local residents’ convenient access to Australia’s leading educational supplier right on their doorstep. Wooldridges Victoria General Manager Jennie Douglas said, “The store opening was a tremendous success and it was great to see so many people involved in the Education sector in the store for the first time. I’m sure the fantastic range of products available and excellent customer service will engage and excite all who visit.”

Wooldridges, the renowned specialists in school booklists, and primary and secondary school educational supplies, remains open all year for teachers, students, parents and the public to wander in and pick up the latest books and novels, art and craft supplies, educational games and puzzles and more.

High Profile Addition to Education Works

Education Works would like to announce the appointment of Tony McKimmie as the new CEO of Education Works, taking effect from 5th May. Tony will be based in Melbourne and takes over from Paul Riley, the acting CEO of Education Works.

Tony Mckimmie has worked with Lonely Planet for the last nine years, most recently as former Australian General Manager, and Global Sales and Marketing Manager for Lonely Planet Publications; and prior to that as CEO of Lonely Planet UK. Tony brings with him years of professional experience within the publishing industry, and is greatly looking forward to the opportunity to work within the education space.

Joining Education Works as it continues to grow to meet the educational resource needs of the Australian market, Tony comments “This is my first week in the business and I have already been struck by the commitment and quality of the people within the organisation, I look forward to the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, working to further strengthen and drive the strategic direction and dedication of Education Works both now and into the future.”

Paul Riley interim CEO adds, “I have enjoyed my time as acting CEO and look forward to working closely with Tony over the coming months. Tony’s skills, experience and strong work ethic will certainly help drive the Education Works business forward both now and in the future, and would like to thank the support and dedication of the management teams and staff alike within all of the businesses and look forward to another successful school year ahead”.

Further announcements this week include the appointment and commencement of Daniel Rohr, as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Wooldridges. Daniel commenced his appointment on Monday 4th May, bringing with him comprehensive commercial experience gained from several senior finance and operational roles and will work across the business and drive business improvement in all areas. Further changes in financial personnel include the departure of Paul Smith as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Education Works, effective 1st May.

Senior Staff Movements at Education Works

Education Works would like to announce that Greg Browne will be stepping down from his role as CEO of Education Works in order to pursue other interests in educational publishing.

Paul Riley has been appointed as interim CEO and can confirm the process has begun to find a permanent replacement for Greg. It is anticipated that an appointment will be announced shortly.

Paul Riley said “we would like to thank Greg for his efforts and wish him success in the future. These are exciting times for the company and we look forward to continuing to build strong and lasting relationships with all our business partners and customers.”

Education Works continues to evolve and grow and has great pleasure in welcoming Paul Smith as the new CFO of Education Works.

Paul Riley said that “Paul brings with him strong commercial expertise and will add great value to our approach in delivering the strongest customer experience in the educational supplies sector. New General Manager at Endeavour Books

Education Works is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennie Douglas to the position of General Manager, Endeavour Books. Jennie will start in the role on the 24th November and will take charge of Education Works’ growth strategy for Victoria as well as day-to-day operational management. Jennie succeeds Anna Lewis as General Manager. Anna will stay on with Endeavour to support the business in a variety of ways and to manage the upcoming back-to-school processes.

Education Works CEO, Greg Browne, said that “Jennie has tremendous experience in education and in business and will be a real asset to our organisation. As a former Primary School Principal and an active member of the Victorian Primary Principals Association, Jennie understands how schools work and, more importantly, she appreciates the needs of teachers, parents and students. Her commercial experience will also prove valuable as we grow Endeavour very quickly over the next 12 months. I look forward to working with Jennie and to seeing Endeavour becoming an even more important partner for the Victorian schools.”

APPA President opens integral SA store

Leonie Trimper, President of the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA), officially opened the newest Education Works Wooldridges Educational Superstore in Edwardstown on the 24th of October 2008. The Edwardstown store is Wooldridges’ first in South Australia and marks the company’s commitment to broadening its reach across Australia.

Wooldridges’ South Australian State Manager, Jamie Snadden stated “We had a great turn out for the opening of our first store and were thrilled that Leonie could be there to support us. APPA is an organisation we value greatly and it was wonderful that they were there to support our new store.”
